Here is an example of just how much $5USD can help. Huge difference. No cost.

Three nutritious meals for one child for one day.

Daktari Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage is an educational animal reserve located near the town of Hoedspruit in Limpopo Province, South Africa.

Every Monday morning we welcome a new group of 8-10 underprivileged children from neighbouring communities who stay with us full board for 5 days. Over the course of the week the children receive our structured syllabus covering subjects from conservation, environment and pollution to social talks on drugs, alcohol, sex education and how to make South Africa a better place.

Daktari aims to leave the children with passion and respect for their beautiful natural surroundings and help them to find jobs within eco-tourism. All of the teaching is delivered by volunteers from all over the world who pay to experience Daktari and all it has to offer.

As a registered NGO all of our funding is generated through volunteers and sponsors - we could not operate without their help. The Daktari reserve itself is home to a variety of rescued birds, animals and reptiles all of which are used to educate and inspire the children and volunteers who stay with us.

A nutritious breakfast of bread, condiments, cereals, fruit and yoghurt. A balanced lunch of salad, cold meats and vegetables. A healthy hot cooked dinner, e.g. lasagne, cottage pie or stew.

Daktari Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage is not open for day visitors as we like to protect the privacy and wellbeing of the animals and children in our care. However, we are open to donors and depending on our schedule can organise a short tour of our project.

It should be noted that we are located an hour from the nearest town of Hoedspruit and we cannot provide overnight accommodation. Your own vehicle will be necessary.

What To Bring

There are a number of things that you can bring for the children or for the animals - pens, pencils, paper, and any stationary items, educational games, animal toys, blankets, towels, dustpan and brush, batteries, sponges for cleaning. Thank you very much for considering your support.
